Getting around on foot
Sheffield is a very pedestrian-friendly city, and you'll find the train station, most hotels, and the conference locations are all within walking distance of each other.

International Travel Information
Trains
Due to its central location, Sheffield is very well connected to other cities and regions by rail – London can be reached in two hours, Manchester in 53 minutes and Leeds in 45 minutes.
The city is also served by two coach operators connecting Sheffield to major destinations. Coaches can be caught from Sheffield Interchange or from Meadowhall Interchange which is a short tram, train or bus ride away.
From Sheffield station you can travel directly to the University’s main campus by tram, with journeys taking less than 10 minutes. To do this catch a blue route service from the tram stop at the station towards Malin Bridge. Trams run every 12 minutes.
If you fancy some fresh air it’s a 20 minute walk. Alternatively you can catch one of a number of buses from outside the station or across the road from Sheffield Interchange or you can hop in a taxi which will take around 10 minutes.
Sheffield is also well served by the national coach network and you can catch one from Sheffield Interchange or Meadowhall Interchange.
Regional train travel
Sheffield station is managed by East Midlands Railway who operate the route between Sheffield and London St. Pancras via Chesterfield, Derby and Leicester.
To plan a train journey and order tickets you can use National Rail Enquiries or the websites of individual operators.
You can purchase your train tickets three months in advance of your date of travel.
Sheffield has an extensive public transport network covering the city centre, suburbs and beyond into South Yorkshire, Derbyshire and the Peak District.

Taxi
Do not get into a taxi unless it’s a Hackney carriage operated under licence from Sheffield City Council or one you have pre booked in advance from a known company such as City Taxis.
A taxi from Sheffield station to the campus costs around £5 and will take approximately 7 minutes.
Bus
There are two main bus operators in South Yorkshire – Stagecoach and First.
Sheffield has two bus interchanges (bus stations) located on Arundel Gate and Pond Street. Buses from these areas to the University take between 10 and 20 minutes.

Car
Sheffield has some parking options; when booking your hotel, consider their parking possibilities and also consider walking or using public transportation to get around - it may be easier than you think.
The best option for parking near the Diamond Building or the Engineering Heartspace is Q-Park Rockingham Street.
The Q-Park, Durham Rd is close to the centre of the University campus.
There are a several options for parking around Sheffield city e.g. Britannia Parking, Hartshead Square NCP, Furnival Gate NCP and the APCOA car park on Eyre Street, or the NCP Solly Street.
Walking
Walking is a good way to travel across Sheffield and explore the city. Whether you want to get from your hotel or the train station to the main campus – everything is on your doorstep and a short walk is always a good option.
Sheffield has a compact city centre with the University campus and residences within a 30 minute walk of each other.
Walking is good for your physical and mental health and it’s a great way to explore a new city or discover hidden gems. Most importantly it’s free and environmentally friendly.
Not only is the urban environment easy to navigate, Sheffield is known as the Outdoor City, with over 200 parks, woodlands and public gardens in its boundaries.
